If you’ve seen our potatoes at market – you know that they have character! Each and every potato is different and occasionally they look more like play things than the perfectly smooth, oblong potatoes that you see at HyVee or Fareway.
However, if you give these misshapen beauties a chance, you will discover that they are mmm mmmm good! The tender skin and delicate flavor paired with butter and herbs in the roasting pan or sour cream and chives in mashed taters is impossible to beat!

The best and also easiest way to clean these spuds is with a soft, clean fingernail brush. Just dunk the taters in some water to soften up any dirt. There shouldn’t be much as we field wash all our taters before bringing them to market. Give the taters a quick scrub with the fingernail brush to get around all of the knobs and rinse under running water. For roasting or boiling simply cut them into chunks any which way. For frying, I cut off and slice 1 knob at a time.
Another great quality of these charismatic potatoes is that they are a great way to get kids interested in their food! Have your kiddos help you pick out, wash and prepare the potatoes for supper. Ask them what each potato looks like to them and make up a story to go along with the characters!
